Natural Cotton Color celebrates 20 years of sustainable Brazilian fashion at BEFW

In a global landscape where sustainable fashion is gaining growing importance, Natural Cotton Color marked its 20th anniversary with a celebration of organic coloured cotton from Paraíba, during the Brasil Eco Fashion Week (BEFW), held from 13 to 15 December 2024 in São Paulo. The retrospective exhibition allowed visitors to explore 20 representative looks that trace the evolution of one of Brazil’s leading sustainable fashion brands.
An immersive exhibition of organic coloured cotton and textile innovation
Set up in a dedicated area at the Frei Caneca Convention Centre, the exhibition created an immersive experience for visitors. They could closely observe the brand’s evolution — from its early streetwear collections to its current position as a premium label in sustainable Brazilian fashion. Mannequins displayed garments made from naturally coloured organic cotton, allowing guests to appreciate the artisanal craftsmanship, intricate detailing and timeless design that define Natural Cotton Color’s identity.

As visitors walked through the installation, they discovered a story that goes far beyond aesthetics — one of social and environmental transformation. “The brand has always highlighted its positive impact throughout the production chain,” said Francisca Vieira, CEO of Natural Cotton Color. From family farmers growing organic cotton in rural settlements and quilombola communities, to artisans preserving traditional techniques such as labirinto, renaissance lace, bobbin lace, filé lace, and crochet, each element reflects a two-decade commitment to sustainability and fair trade.
Innovation in sustainable textiles: denim and silk blends without dyeing
Among the highlights were innovations such as sustainable denim made without dyeing and a luxurious twill blend of coloured cotton and silk waste. These developments illustrate how Natural Cotton Color continues to redefine the textile industry — eliminating irrigation and harmful chemicals while conserving precious resources such as water. Across the entire production chain, from the cultivation of organic coloured cotton to textile finishing and garment making, the brand’s process uses 87.5% less water compared to conventional dyed fabrics.
The Calunga collection brings Maracatu culture to the catwalk
Alongside the exhibition, the brand unveiled its Calunga collection on 13 December, inspired by Maracatu, one of Brazil’s most vibrant Afro-Indigenous cultural traditions. The collection — designed by Francisca Vieira and Léo Mendonça, with creative consultancy by Elis Janoville — featured 30 looks blending classic tailoring with handcrafted details, reaffirming the value of craftsmanship and the cultural richness of Paraíba, the Northeast, and Brazil.

A legacy of sustainable fashion from Brazil to the world
Choosing Natural Cotton Color means embracing a textile revolution that began in the semi-arid lands of Paraíba and now influences the global fashion industry. The exhibition at BEFW not only celebrated the brand’s 20-year journey but also projected a future in which ethical, organic, and sustainable fashion becomes the norm rather than the exception.
Natural Cotton Color’s two-decade trajectory demonstrates that elegance, innovation, and socio-environmental responsibility can coexist. With an authentic Brazilian DNA, the brand continues to lead by example — creating fashion that respects people, traditions, and the planet.
