Natural Cotton Color brings a collection to the 23rd Paraíba Craft Show
In January 2016 the Paraíba Craft show takes place in João Pessoa. In its 23rd edition the event is themed color cotton, a product of great economic and cultural value to the state, which is located in the Northeast of Brazil.
The show is held from January 15th to the 31st, at the José Lins do Rego Cultural Center, a 50,000 square meter facility, created by the award-winning architect Sergio Bernardes (1919-2002).
The whole ambiance of the Craft Show is thematic. The Natural Cotton Color Group will display its Capsule Spring / Summer collection—launched in 2015 in Première Vision Paris—developed from organic color cotton, using craft techniques. Pieces by the Santa Luzia Hammocks and decoration Group will also be displayed.
The Paraíba Craft Show involves the work of about 400 craftsmen (associations, cooperatives and individuals) in 70 cities. It will be held in January because it is high summer, a time when the capital and other seaside towns receive a large number of tourists. The Show helps publicizing information on the artisanal production carried out in the state and generates year-round business for the craftsmen.
According to the manager of the Paraíba Craft Program (PAP), Lu Maia, around 50 thousand people are expected to attend.
About color cotton – The color cotton from Paraiba is an agro-ecological product developed by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation – Embrapa Cotton. Studies and improvement of the fibre were made in the past two decades. The cotton is grown with color, without using additives or dyes. The production does not pollute, and uses 87.5% less water in comparison to common manufacturing with dyeing.
